Martin Luther King Parade

Members Mike Rawlins, Calvin Laumauna, and Leonae Rodrigues talked about the importance of our participation in the Martin Luther King Parade on January 16, 2017 as they gathered with a group of other UPW members from Oahu Division to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King (more in the video above).

Calvin introduced his wife Chris and Palehua saying, "We came out in support of the Union and for what Martin Luther King did for us."

"The day that he died in Memphis, he walked with the Sanitation Strikers," said Leonae. It was unfortunate to hear that Leonae will be retiring from our Union at the end of this year, after 43 years with us. Leonae is the Chair of the Oahu Division Political Action Committee and has been instrumental in organizing the parade for many years.

The day started bright and early with members showing up at 7:00 am to decorate the trucks and inflate helium balloons for passing out to children watching the parade that ended with lunch at Kapiolani Park.
